What does Canon City have to offer? Well how about the worlds highest suspension bridge. This bridge spans the Royal Gorge, built in 1929 the views from this bridge of the gorge below are breath taking.
But before you think it is only standing on a bridge for a few minutes looking down at the Arkansas River, you have another thing coming. How about a breath taking plunge off the Royal Rush Skycoaster, you will be free falling at 50 mph out over 1200 feet above the Arkansas River.
Of course you would want to take a ride on the world’s steepest Incline Railway at 45 degrees. Here you go to the bottom of the gorge and see the rushing river and wave to the rafters going by. Rafting, you want to go rafting? Just see one of the may rafting companies in the area. Also you can ride across the gorge on a high wire, if you dare.
Don’t forget to take the kids and kids at heart to the petting zoo, there you will see elk, bison, including a unique white bison, big horn sheep and more. They also offer free burro rides.
Then there is shopping, plenty of places to get something good to eat, everything from ice cream, cotton candy, funnel cakes to BBQ and hotdogs.
If you are into camping, there are plenty of places in the area to camp or park your RV.
This is defiantly a Five Star Family trip worth taking.

How about a step back in time? We began our visit at none other than the Chattanooga Choo-Choo, where we stayed in a Victorian rail car. We were there the week or so before their official season started and it was a little quiet. But I was assured that things came a live when tourist season started. However the slow pace was a really nice for us. We had dinner at the Station House where they had singing servers. We also took a carriage ride where all the carriages are assigned a dalmation to ride.
We visited all the regular tourist places that people see when they come to Chattanooga. Rock City…a MUST see! This place is a great thing of beauty. At the top you can see 7 states! This is a self-guided tour. Special thanks to the Carters who started Rock City on private property back in the 30’s.
Then on to Ruby Falls…WOW! This was quite a hike and I think the only thing we didn’t like about Ruby Falls was that it was a group tour. Other than that…WOW! 145-foot underground waterfall that they have never found the source to.
Of course we had to catch the famous Tennessee Aquarium. Those sea horses are a thing of wonder! It is a great aquarium and takes several hours to go through…so leave your self plenty of time to take in this adventure. And who would want to miss the IMAX Theater…A Rainforest Adventure…GREAT PRODUCTION!
We don’t want to leave out the incline-railway. At the top you have a view of the entire downtown Chattanooga.
There is one other stop that I just loved! It was one of those accidental things that make trips worthwhile! 2601 Broad Street! I noticed this beautiful mosaic on the building. So I just had to stop and find out about it! We ended up going into several great shops! One was a little shop called the GRAPEVINE of Chattanooga that had clothing, and outdoor equipment; another was an art studio that had unique art! And of course we met the artist Steve Terlizzese of Collage Mosaics that did the mosaic on the building. He does Grandfather Clocks, Wall Mirrors and lots of other things. He also does custom work. Check him out at www.E-creativeunion.com
Chattanooga is great for the whole family or a romantic weekend of two. My best advise when visiting Chattanooga is to look for package deals, you will save quite a bit of money.
